5 Ways to dress when you’re not your hot self.

UyenHave you ever had one of those days… when you try on four different outfits and you hate everything you have on because you just feel yucky in them?  Then, under your breath in a depressed tone you say “UGH, I have nothing to wear” while staring at a closet full of clothes.  Yep, I’m raising my hand as we speak.  I truly feel we get so frustrated at our selves because in the moment when you feel horrible, we tend to grab things that accentuate our frustrations.  Example, when I feel a little bloated, it’s probably not a good idea to grab that form fitted shirt to go with skinny jeans.  I’m not saying to dress frumpy, don’t take your mood out on your wardrobe.  But you can definitely still dress chic and cute in a comfortable way when you’re not feelin so hot!

1)  Go for PATTERN!  Pattern is great way to cover up and disguise what you are feeling.  This horizontal stripe is so flattering, and immediately draws your eye to the outfit as a whole.  Add a cute denim vest to break up the stripes and you have a look that is so comfortable.

2)  BLACK is a girls best friend!  This color is so flattering on all body types!  A high wasted maxi skirt can define your waist, giving you shape and yet it doesn’t “hug” your legs making you feel stuffy.  I love how it’s paired with a flowy tank that has a subtle pattern giving it just enough femininity.

3)  Who doesn’t love a great Tee?  I love contrasting colors- the baseball style t-shirt draws the focus to the upper body so people will be noticing your rockin hair or your bright smile right away!

4)  Don’t be afraid to show some shoulders.  When wearing a full covering outfit, make sure you leave some skin so you are not covered head to toe.  Especially, when I’m feeling more bloated than usual I don’t like to dress in anything tight or form fitting.  This maxi dress has a perfect balance of being loose but not to frumpy.

5)  There has a been such a big “no- no” to sweatpants.  And you know what…if you wanna wear sweatpants, then give them some LOVE and sport em’!  Remember it’s all about how you feel, and let’s be honest, they are just the coziest!  Throw on a cute denim jacket and you’ve just dressed them up a bit.

So the next time you are feeling a little down, make sure you are picking your outfit to compliment what you feel good about that day!  Don’t stress too much about the clothes and focus on either your hair or make-up.  The frumpy day feeling will pass and I’m sure the next day you’ll be trending in your heels and mini skirt!

the shine project 2013 benefit.

PicMonkey CollageHave you heard about the The Shine Project?  I met Ashley, the founder and creator of The Shine Project at a blogging event a few months back and we instantly clicked.  She truly is the sweetest, motivated, fashionable gal that you just want to be around.  Ashley discovered the lack of programs for inner city youth and launched a non-profit scholarship program to improve the lives of at-risk teens through service, education, and family involvement.  This program teaches inner city students leadership skills to help them achieve their goals and succeed.  The money raised goes to these students to attend college and give back to society.

I have always been a MAC girl.  Perhaps I’m biased because MAC started my major crush with makeup.  I think the company as a whole really gives back to their makeup artists and provides further education.  I also feel their makeup wears really well with my skin type.  Sometimes the olive skin tone is really hard to match but I always find a perfect combo with MAC.  Although I’m a MAC groupie, I’m definitely not opposed to trying other products.
makeup1.  MAC Studio Fix  2.  L’oreal Voluminous Mascara  3.  MAC 217 Brush  4.  MAC Mineralize Rich Lipstick {Style Surge}  5.  Bobbie Brown BB Cream

I love MAC studio fix.  It provides full coverage but depending on the brush it can give you a lighter finish as well.  I use the MAC buffer brush to give me a light dust of studio fix over my bb cream.  If I’m heading out for the evening and want more coverage I’ll use the sponge included in the studio fix to set my finish.  As for mascara… I know everyone is in search for the perfect mascara.  I can’t tell you enough how much I love love love L’oreal voluminous.  I get it in carbon black and you can pretty much find it anywhere!  It coats my lashes so well, I don’t have a full set of lashes at all and I feel like it makes them so luscious!  If I had to have a go to brush, it would be the MAC 217 blender.  And that’s exactly what it does…blends.  It’s so important to blend each shade on your lid.  Your colors will look so much cleaner and you’ll get a more professional look.  Go over each shade clockwise or counterclockwise (whatever is most comfortable to you) in small circles starting at the outer part of your lid and work your way towards the inner.  You’ll see a world of difference in your overall look- a more professional look.  I normally don’t wear lipstick- not that I don’t love to but because I kiss my son so much…teehee.  But I found this color- Style Surge and I’m in love with it!  It’s a peachy/coral bit of goodness and just in time for spring. I’ve recently jumped on the band wagon and started using a bb cream.  I was using a different brand before and thought it was ok, and then I found Bobbi Brown’s bb cream and it’s growing on me.  I love bb creams mainly because it’s so easy!  Gives you a light finish evening your skin tone.  For me, I’m more on the dry skin side so it gives me enough moisture without being oily.  And it comes with SPF which is great.  Stay tuned… I’ll do a more detailed post on makeup looks in the future!
