In love with how dainty these boxes are.  I have quite a crush on French Macaroons and having one of these in my purse would light me up.

Lucite clutch

I have to give credit to my friend, Rachel.  She is the most stylish fashionista I know!  We met for brunch last Sunday for a friend’s baby shower, and as I was walking in the restaurant- I spotted this gem (no pun intended) on the table and it was love at first sight.  Obsessed- yep this beauty is on it’s way to me.  Thank you Rachel… xoxoxo!

5 Ways to spark your relationship.

image163547_10201073571947270_643357363_nHandsome hubs and I have been married for almost three years.  We’ve actually known each other since junior high; time does go by faster as you get older.  We didn’t speak to each other for years after high school, but once we reunited we both knew it was meant to be.  I love this man to the moon and back, and yes he would lasso the moon for me.  Truth, marriage is work.  That last sentence sounds so negative, but it’s honest.  It is work I’m willing to do and in return, it has the biggest reward.  Unconditional love.  The hardest part about being in a relationship is realizing how selfish I can be.  I do this, I need this, I want.  The start of our relationship came so easy…why?  I wanted him to be happy.  I brought him lunch, did his laundry, and picked up his socks around the house. Not because it was expected of me but because I wanted to.  I wanted to take care of him and that made me feel good.  As my relationship matured, I lost sight of that.  Instead of focusing on what made him happy I started to compare what we each contributed to the household.  That is not a good outlook.  Comparing one another’s value in a relationship will only bring negative emotions and make situations worse.  I had to take a step back and take a look at the whole picture.  I admit sometimes I have “Uyen glasses” on.  I like to argue my point of view and show I have an imprint in the world.  I want to prove to my husband I’m a strong and smart woman.  When in reality I don’t need to prove a thing because he does think all those things and more.   Instead of focusing on the negative and what I felt he didn’t do, I evaluated my role- what I contributed to the relationship.  I realized we are on the same team.  We might see things differently on some subjects but as long as we maintain that respect for each other, our relationship will keep blossoming.  He challenges me to be a good person and in the grand scheme of things, isn’t that one of our purposes in life?  To make one another better?  That’s one of my goals at least.  Lance and I made a commitment to one another and decided that putting each other first is a must.  Making my other half happy has in return made me happy.  Light bulb moment…the LOVE comes full circle.  That thought makes me smile.  When we keep that in mind, we’ve been the giddiest.

Here are five ways to spark in your relationship.

1.  Have a conversation.  With no distracting elements (no phones, tv, computer, etc).  Think about the last time you had a conversation where you felt like your partner was really listening to you.  Take a time out from electronics and you will feel more connected to your better half.

2.  Cook each other breakfast.  Take turns on this one.  Nothing better than to start a day with a meal made by the one you love.

3.  Post it love notes.  You can never hear I love you enough right?  Even if you say it everyday, jot a little somethin-somethin and leave it somewhere unexpected.  Example, I left a love note on hubs’ steering wheel, so when he left for work he’d find it.

4.  Attack a house project together.  This will test your team work.  Have good communication and know that you have the same goal in mind- to finish the project, ha!  Lance and I are currently practicing this one right now.  He’s helping me renovate my studio/office and he has been so amazing.  I do have to do a little shout out here.  I have one of the most supportive husband’s ever!  He believes in me no matter what and I am truly lucky.

5.  Laugh with each other.  There is nothing sexier than to be yourself, so let your guard down.  Laughter is contagious and can instantly improve your mood.  If you are happy, most likely your mate will be happy!

Keep your love brewing…xoxo!

baby boy style {Memorial Day}

untitled-11

Chambray shirt | Red shorts | Me + Dad onesie | Shorts with braces | Fedora hat | Red mesh shoes | Star poplin shirt | Cargo navy one- piece

I gathered some adorable pieces for boys to sport on Memorial Day.  I am so impressed with how cute boys clothes are becoming.  Designers are realizing that they have to keep boys just as trendy as the girls.  I try to dress my little gem in hip urban styles, but the most important is how comfortable the clothes are.  Crew is 10 months, so as you know he’s a movin and a shaken.  I try to dress him in light weight clothing that breathes well since it’s approaching summer.  My favorite site to stock his wardrobe is Zara.  Seriously, I love their kids line.  They bring a fresh, modern, and fun feel to their looks.  Their clothing is pretty true to size and are superb in quality.  Obviously, Gap kids is always a perfect place to find baby clothing.  I love their onesie’s because they are all made from sturdy cotton and they last forever.  You can never go wrong with Old Navy.  They are so affordable, which is a plus because little ones grow so fast.  I get so giddy when I look for outfits for Crew.  I could probably shop for kids clothes for days.

Is there a favorite brand you like to dress your little one in?

3 Ways for a braid.

3 hairstyles
Are you thinking of ways to implement a fun braid for summer?  These three simple hairstyles will keep you stylish and keep you from fussing with your hair.

  • Look 1:  Braid a section of hair from your temple till just past your ear, then secure with bobby pins.
  • Look 2:  Side braid, I kept the braid near my temple from look 1 and just added the side braid down.
  • Look 3:  Two braids half up.  Braid two sections of your from the side of your temples and tie together in the back of your head.

RMY_BlogHeader4

In my post here, I wrote about revamping my blog and finding a web designer.  There are so many fabulous ones out there, that it was so hard to narrow it down.  I wanted a designer that could collaborate with me and bring all my visions to life.  And so… I am thrilled to be working with Red Met Yellow Creative.  I was so proud of myself in the fact that I didn’t make an impulsive decision.  Normally I would have but with Crew & Lu I feel as though I’ve been nurturing this process.  I took a lot of time, asking myself what I wanted from a design team.  If they could achieve the look I envisioned, and honestly if they are cohesive with my brand.  I think it is so important to choose a designer that has your same esthetic.  Red Met Yellow definitely fit that mold.  Not only that, Megan took the time to speak with me to answer any questions I had and put all my fears to rest.  And so another part of the journey has begun.  I am exploding with nervousness, excitement, and I am learning patience.  Can’t wait for you all to see what has to come.

Creative kisses to you.

5 Ways to dress when you’re not your hot self.

UyenHave you ever had one of those days… when you try on four different outfits and you hate everything you have on because you just feel yucky in them?  Then, under your breath in a depressed tone you say “UGH, I have nothing to wear” while staring at a closet full of clothes.  Yep, I’m raising my hand as we speak.  I truly feel we get so frustrated at our selves because in the moment when you feel horrible, we tend to grab things that accentuate our frustrations.  Example, when I feel a little bloated, it’s probably not a good idea to grab that form fitted shirt to go with skinny jeans.  I’m not saying to dress frumpy, don’t take your mood out on your wardrobe.  But you can definitely still dress chic and cute in a comfortable way when you’re not feelin so hot!
042513_WOM_tshirtChic_DIR_US1b{Drawstring maxi dress and denim vest, GAP}
1)  Go for PATTERN!  Pattern is great way to cover up and disguise what you are feeling.  This horizontal stripe is so flattering, and immediately draws your eye to the outfit as a whole.  Add a cute denim vest to break up the stripes and you have a look that is so comfortable.

image1xxl{Black maxi skirt, Asos}
2)  BLACK is a girls best friend!  This color is so flattering on all body types!  A high wasted maxi skirt can define your waist, giving you shape and yet it doesn’t “hug” your legs making you feel stuffy.  I love how it’s paired with a flowy tank that has a subtle pattern giving it just enough femininity.

56877_KP1801_m{Baseball tee, JCrew}
3)  Who doesn’t love a great Tee?  I love contrasting colors- the baseball style t-shirt draws the focus to the upper body so people will be noticing your rockin hair or your bright smile right away!

image1xl{Tie dye maxi dress, Asos}
4)  Don’t be afraid to show some shoulders.  When wearing a full covering outfit, make sure you leave some skin so you are not covered head to toe.  Especially, when I’m feeling more bloated than usual I don’t like to dress in anything tight or form fitting.  This maxi dress has a perfect balance of being loose but not to frumpy.

V363103-1{Sweatpants, Victoria Secret}
5)  There has a been such a big “no- no” to sweatpants.  And you know what…if you wanna wear sweatpants, then give them some LOVE and sport em’!  Remember it’s all about how you feel, and let’s be honest, they are just the coziest!  Throw on a cute denim jacket and you’ve just dressed them up a bit.

So the next time you are feeling a little down, make sure you are picking your outfit to compliment what you feel good about that day!  Don’t stress too much about the clothes and focus on either your hair or make-up.  The frumpy day feeling will pass and I’m sure the next day you’ll be trending in your heels and mini skirt!

stripes.

black and white 2

{Asos black crop top | Asos Midi Skirt | Jimmy Choo wedges}
I love me some stripes!  My sister recently threw a lavish birthday party for my brother in law and requested guests to dress in black and white.  I didn’t complain as I love wearing that color scheme.  Not only is black so complementing to every body type but it’s just classic.  The 80’s have been makin a come back and I’m definitely jumping in and testing some of it’s beloved trends.  I’m not one to wear anything too showy or flashy but in this circumstance, why not?  So I busted out the mid-drift bearing crop top.  Gave just a peek of skin and paired it with a high wasted striped midi skirt.  There was so much going on with the stripes that I just accessorized with some arm candy and as always, nude wedges.  I loved twirling in this skirt!
lookblackand whiteblackandwhitefamily 5I go gaga when I see hubs in a nice button up shirt.  He cleans up well!  And I can’t forget little man, I dressed him in a classic linen shirt from Crazy 8 and paired it with a nice black skinny jean from H&M.  Seriously, I giggle with how cute baby clothes are these days!  I’m a photographolic!  I am obsessed with trying to capture every moment but their mostly of just Crew, Crew with dad, or Crew with me.  So I was so happy when we were able to capture some family pics!

revamping the blog.

cropped-crew-lu-blush.jpgWhen I first started blogging, I did it mainly for me.  I wasn’t worried about having any followers or impressing anyone.  But since I’ve started I’ve met such interesting creative people and that fueled my spark! It was a way to express myself and it has turned into a hobby of sorts.
So now I’m at a stage where I really want to dive in and take this seriously.  Therefore, leading me to this topic…upgrading my current blog I have now to a custom one.  This current theme you are seeing now is one of many that is free with WordPress.  I’m still new at this so I just learn as I go.  I know I’m missing important things on the blog, like social media buttons, contact page, and too many to list.  I really feel it’s important to have a visual site that really represents my personality and the message I want to get across.  I’m in love with my logo- still feel like it’s timeless and classic.  My girlfriend, Julie has been so awesome in helping me create a brand.  You can view my branding post here.  I’ve been surfing the web for ideas so I have a few color schemes I love…
RMY_Brandboard{via redmetyellow.com/blog– loving the color scheme}
Redmetyellow is a design team that I am crushing on.  They have such impeccable work and new modern ideas.  I am in love with how intricate their sites look and they also seem easy to navigate.  I contacted Megan, their web designer, and got an answer right away.  I think it is so important to have great communication with your designer as your outcome will just be that much better because you’ve expressed your vision.  I feel like your web designer should be able to get your ideas out of you and execute your vision to the best of their abilities.   Redmetyellow is a definite front runner for my new website.
October-Ink-Cara-Loren-Website{via Octoberink.com }
I stumbled across October Ink on Instagram.  They have designed some fellow bloggers’ sites and I am totally diggin their esthetic.  I love their light-fresh approach and feel they would represent my brand very well.  My hubs will tell you, I act on impulse.  But I really feel that October Ink would make sure I have something I won’t get sick and will be timeless.
BikinisPassportsBlogDesign{via Saffronavenue.com– Really enjoying this color scheme!}

Creating a custom site can definitely cost a pretty penny.  So I definitely have to put some good thought into this.  I want to be thorough as possible but time is also important, as I don’t want to take forever with a new launch of my blog.  Fellow bloggers, I’m asking for your help!  Any advice on how to choose a web designer?  How to come up with the look of your blog.  Do you think it’s important to have a custom site to define you?

Looking forward to your input!  Feel free to post a comment linking anything you’ve written about this topic!

weekend recap.

TKThis is TK…one of my three sisters.  We four sisters have a special bond, unexplainable.  I’ll highlight my sisters in future posts, till then I’ll fill you in on what happened in my world this past  weekend.  TK and I attended The Shine Project’s Beauty Bar event and it was so fun getting pampered.  I did a post about The Shine Project here…and if you haven’t read up on them you should because they are amazing.  Truly inspiring, Ashley (founder of The Shine Project) is creating such an awesome movement.
Beautybar{Sorry didn’t have many shots from the event, it was so windy that night.  This pic is from my iPhone}  We got to hear from some students, past recipients of The Shine Project Scholarship Fund and future applicants.  They were all so sweet and grateful!
crew swimWe also attended my friend’s son’s fourth birthday party.  And as you can see Crew got some water time fun in.  Let me tell you, he loves the water…maybe a future swimmer on our hands?  Ha!  So fun to watch him splash around thinking he is one of the big kids!

So excited that I got to work on my sewing skills this weekend.  I’ve never really had that much patience but I’m learning.  And the gratification I get when I have a finished product is just peachy!  I love love love baby leggings!  Not only do they look super cool but I feel like they would be so much more comfortable for the babes to crawl around in…

Hope you had a lovely weekend!

I heart H&M.

Obsessing with the new line that debuted from H&M.  Love that you can be trendy at such an affordable price point.  I personally feel that their quality has improved over the years and I have quite a few favorite outfits from them.  Here are some pieces that I have my eye on, click on the picture and it will direct you to the link.
hmprod{This black dress is so simple, and yet there is something so sexy about it.  Perfect for a night out on the town or a cocktail party}
hmprod{Lovely patterned dress is totally up my alley!  Love the beaded embroidery at the top of the A-line.  This is actually a flattering dress on most body types, and it defines the waist and can give you more shape.}
hmprod{I am a sucker for tulle and I am totally crushing on this dress.  Must find a fancy event I can attend to wear this and twirl in it!}
hmprod{Now onto casual attire.  I know this tribal print is trendy but you can definitely sport this for spring.  I would even pair it with a brighter solid color top, perhaps coral.}
hmprod{Simple, classic, and clean.  This look is one of my favorites because it’s so crisp and comes across so polished.  The beading adds just enough detail and I would even pair it with a flowy short sleeve white or blush top.}

{I recently snatched up this gem.  I normally wear a two piece suit but thought this would be perfect for times when I take my little man to swim lessons or when I don’t wan’t to take in too much sun.  Still a full one piece but showing just enough skin}

Those are my “have to have” pics from H&M.  Wish they would open an online shop, but then again that would wreck havoc on my pocket book!
