In my post here, I wrote about revamping my blog and finding a web designer.  There are so many fabulous ones out there, that it was so hard to narrow it down.  I wanted a designer that could collaborate with me and bring all my visions to life.  And so… I am thrilled to be working with Red Met Yellow Creative.  I was so proud of myself in the fact that I didn’t make an impulsive decision.  Normally I would have but with Crew & Lu I feel as though I’ve been nurturing this process.  I took a lot of time, asking myself what I wanted from a design team.  If they could achieve the look I envisioned, and honestly if they are cohesive with my brand.  I think it is so important to choose a designer that has your same esthetic.  Red Met Yellow definitely fit that mold.  Not only that, Megan took the time to speak with me to answer any questions I had and put all my fears to rest.  And so another part of the journey has begun.  I am exploding with nervousness, excitement, and I am learning patience.  Can’t wait for you all to see what has to come.

Creative kisses to you.

comic bubbles diy.

Hello!Pow
How rad are these chalkboard photo props?  They are so extremely easy to make and a great way to add FUN to any party!  Personally, I’d do a impromptu photo shoot with them any time.  Follow these simple steps below to start personalizing your photos!

What you’ll need:
{Cardboard poster, this is thicker than poster board and I found it in the same isle as the poster board}
{Chalkboard paint}
{Wood dowels}
{Gorilla tape or Duct tape}

cartoon pop upThe first couple of steps are simple!  Sketch the shape you want your comic bubble to look like on the back of the cardboard poster.  I wanted my bubbles to be a little bit bigger so I was able to fit two on mine.  I think it would be cute to make slightly smaller ones for kids and honestly there are so many shapes you could do!  Then cut them out with scissors.
cartoon pop up diyAfter my shapes were cut out, I rolled chalkboard paint with a small sponge roller (to get a more even finish).  I painted three coats, giving dry time between the coats.  I’m sure two coats would do but I wanted to make sure the whole surface was even and durable.
Once dried, I attached round wood dowels on the backside of the comic bubbles with Gorilla tape.  And voila!  Have a ball with awesome photos and endless captions!
BucketThis is my dog Bucket!  My hubs and I always narrate what’s going on in his head.
BaconI’m pretty positive this is on his mind daily!  Hee-hee
Pow 1Happy diy!

revamping the blog.

cropped-crew-lu-blush.jpgWhen I first started blogging, I did it mainly for me.  I wasn’t worried about having any followers or impressing anyone.  But since I’ve started I’ve met such interesting creative people and that fueled my spark! It was a way to express myself and it has turned into a hobby of sorts.
So now I’m at a stage where I really want to dive in and take this seriously.  Therefore, leading me to this topic…upgrading my current blog I have now to a custom one.  This current theme you are seeing now is one of many that is free with WordPress.  I’m still new at this so I just learn as I go.  I know I’m missing important things on the blog, like social media buttons, contact page, and too many to list.  I really feel it’s important to have a visual site that really represents my personality and the message I want to get across.  I’m in love with my logo- still feel like it’s timeless and classic.  My girlfriend, Julie has been so awesome in helping me create a brand.  You can view my branding post here.  I’ve been surfing the web for ideas so I have a few color schemes I love…
RMY_Brandboard{via redmetyellow.com/blog– loving the color scheme}
Redmetyellow is a design team that I am crushing on.  They have such impeccable work and new modern ideas.  I am in love with how intricate their sites look and they also seem easy to navigate.  I contacted Megan, their web designer, and got an answer right away.  I think it is so important to have great communication with your designer as your outcome will just be that much better because you’ve expressed your vision.  I feel like your web designer should be able to get your ideas out of you and execute your vision to the best of their abilities.   Redmetyellow is a definite front runner for my new website.
October-Ink-Cara-Loren-Website{via Octoberink.com }
I stumbled across October Ink on Instagram.  They have designed some fellow bloggers’ sites and I am totally diggin their esthetic.  I love their light-fresh approach and feel they would represent my brand very well.  My hubs will tell you, I act on impulse.  But I really feel that October Ink would make sure I have something I won’t get sick and will be timeless.
BikinisPassportsBlogDesign{via Saffronavenue.com– Really enjoying this color scheme!}

Creating a custom site can definitely cost a pretty penny.  So I definitely have to put some good thought into this.  I want to be thorough as possible but time is also important, as I don’t want to take forever with a new launch of my blog.  Fellow bloggers, I’m asking for your help!  Any advice on how to choose a web designer?  How to come up with the look of your blog.  Do you think it’s important to have a custom site to define you?

Looking forward to your input!  Feel free to post a comment linking anything you’ve written about this topic!

weekend recap.

TKThis is TK…one of my three sisters.  We four sisters have a special bond, unexplainable.  I’ll highlight my sisters in future posts, till then I’ll fill you in on what happened in my world this past  weekend.  TK and I attended The Shine Project’s Beauty Bar event and it was so fun getting pampered.  I did a post about The Shine Project here…and if you haven’t read up on them you should because they are amazing.  Truly inspiring, Ashley (founder of The Shine Project) is creating such an awesome movement.
Beautybar{Sorry didn’t have many shots from the event, it was so windy that night.  This pic is from my iPhone}  We got to hear from some students, past recipients of The Shine Project Scholarship Fund and future applicants.  They were all so sweet and grateful!
crew swimWe also attended my friend’s son’s fourth birthday party.  And as you can see Crew got some water time fun in.  Let me tell you, he loves the water…maybe a future swimmer on our hands?  Ha!  So fun to watch him splash around thinking he is one of the big kids!

So excited that I got to work on my sewing skills this weekend.  I’ve never really had that much patience but I’m learning.  And the gratification I get when I have a finished product is just peachy!  I love love love baby leggings!  Not only do they look super cool but I feel like they would be so much more comfortable for the babes to crawl around in…

Of course I had to get some girly stuff in there too.  Head bands are so cute on baby girls, I can’t stand it!

Crew rockin his baby leggings.  Seriously this kid is just too cool.

Hope you had a lovely weekend!

I heart H&M.

Obsessing with the new line that debuted from H&M.  Love that you can be trendy at such an affordable price point.  I personally feel that their quality has improved over the years and I have quite a few favorite outfits from them.  Here are some pieces that I have my eye on, click on the picture and it will direct you to the link.
hmprod{This black dress is so simple, and yet there is something so sexy about it.  Perfect for a night out on the town or a cocktail party}
hmprod{Lovely patterned dress is totally up my alley!  Love the beaded embroidery at the top of the A-line.  This is actually a flattering dress on most body types, and it defines the waist and can give you more shape.}
hmprod{I am a sucker for tulle and I am totally crushing on this dress.  Must find a fancy event I can attend to wear this and twirl in it!}
hmprod{Now onto casual attire.  I know this tribal print is trendy but you can definitely sport this for spring.  I would even pair it with a brighter solid color top, perhaps coral.}
hmprod{Simple, classic, and clean.  This look is one of my favorites because it’s so crisp and comes across so polished.  The beading adds just enough detail and I would even pair it with a flowy short sleeve white or blush top.}

{I recently snatched up this gem.  I normally wear a two piece suit but thought this would be perfect for times when I take my little man to swim lessons or when I don’t wan’t to take in too much sun.  Still a full one piece but showing just enough skin}

Those are my “have to have” pics from H&M.  Wish they would open an online shop, but then again that would wreck havoc on my pocket book!

crews room 8Every mother dreams of a perfect nursery for their baby.  I started really designing his room when I was about 16 weeks pregnant.  I am proud to say that I painted the stripes all by myself (like a big girl-ha).  My handy hubby installed the crown molding which really finished the room nicely.  It was hard work but I am in love with how the room turned out.  I’ve included some links below to some of the pieces in his room.  If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me!

pretty things.

I’ve been determined to get a little organization in my life.  I find that I have so many ideas and sometimes forget about them cause I’m running around like a mad woman.  I know many people carry idea pads or notebooks with them and yes I’m a little late but I’m starting to catch on.  I sometimes use my notes app on my iPhone but I find something therapeutic about writing out thoughts and ideas the old school way with pen and paper.  I’ve been jotting down to do lists and ideas for my blog.  You might find a doodle or two too.  I can’t tell you how many notebooks I have that are just waiting to be used.  I have a little thing for pretty notebooks!

{Notebooks purchased from Target, not sure if these ones are still available but you can find similar ones here.  Brooch is from Forever21– such a great budget find and one of my favorite pieces}
Notebooks
I had a chance to stop into one of my favorite furniture stores…The Crowded House in Chandler, Arizona.  I love almost every piece in the store and let me tell you it is packed with goodness!  I know furniture can get pretty pricey and therefore  I am a believer in investing in pieces that are timeless and can grow with you as your taste changes.  The Crowded House has a very eclectic feel and my home is definitely craving some dining chairs I’ve had my eye on.

I’m sure I’ll do an in depth feature on The Crowded House in the future.  I will be venturing out on this overcast day enjoying the rest of the weekend.  Hope your weekend is filled with lots of adventures!
